Marc Daniels are presently seeking an Outsourcing – Finance Manager to join a fantastic firm based in Reading town centre. This role will provide technical financial reporting support to the Financial Reporting team, principally in Reading and London, but also extending to Birmingham offices and you will manage complex financial reporting assignments/ projects.

Duties include:

  • Manage a portfolio of complex financial reporting clients from a wide range of industries including the financial sector which compresses of the largest clients by fee size to the department
  • Assist the senior managers and partners with the client relationship management in relation to these clients to ensure that they continue to be satisfied with the firm
  • Arrange staff bookings for undertaking assignments and attendance at clients on a day to day basis to ensure all applicable deadlines are met, also ensuring that the right level of technically qualified staff are booked onto each assignment for the appropriate time
  • Plan and review the progress of client work and ensure high level of client service and satisfaction
  • Assist clients with ad hoc questions in relation to technical accounting matters including the interpretation of results
  • Be responsible for the allocation of staff on client work whilst keeping in mind the technical and career development of more junior members of staff
  • Ensure that all the staff work within the allocated timescales and to the standard required. If problems occur, seek ways to resolve matters quickly and efficiently
  • Assume responsibility for junior staff on matters regarding client dealings, all internal/external face to face and telephone communications, written work and ensure they meet the highest professional standards
  • Assist with setting targets and objectives for junior staff, as well as on the job training and coaching
  • Completing appraisals for staff, assisting in identifying development needs and opportunities
  • Contribute and implement ideas for staff motivation and development
  • Arrange debriefing sessions and provide feedback on performance and budget with an explanation of any variance
  • Assist with the recruitment of new staff and assisting with the senior managers with the resourcing of the team
  • Train and coach junior members of the team on accounting basis such as IFRS, FRS 101, FRS 102 and other complex accounting matters
  • Facilitate training and thought leadership in regard to all technical accounting developments within the financial reporting sphere and communicate updates to staff in a lively and informative manner
  • Manage budgets for client work and have a thorough understanding of the firms billing procedures, including charge out rates, budgeting and calculation of recovery rates
  • Prepare draft bills for the senior managers / partners on a regular basis and ensure through client relationships that these bills are settled by clients
  • Where necessary, follow up with clients for the settlement of outstanding fees
  • Promote the firm and identify new technical accounting advisory opportunities
  • Promote and develop the department to other departments, particularly the Audit and Assurance department, collaborating with other Senior Managers within outsourcing
  • Have a full awareness of the services offered by other departments in the firm and continually look for cross selling opportunities
  • Be responsible for bringing in new technical accounting business leads which turn into new jobs for the department
  • Show evidence of up to date awareness and understanding of: corporation tax, income tax, VAT, PAYE, company secretarial procedures and applications in practice
  • Review financial statements prepared by junior members of the team to ensure that they meet statutory requirements (Companies Act 2006 and various GAAP)
  • Where appropriate, have specific industry knowledge to be able to identify potential problems or areas of risk
  • Have a full knowledge of compliance and client take on procedures and be responsible for the setup of new clients on the system
  • Ensure each client’s company accounts are filed within the statutory timelines
  • Extensive experience in company accounts disclosure, legislation and application in practice
  • Take responsibility for technical matters and resolve any problems which may arise for their own portfolio and supporting the wider team in this regard

To be considered you will need:

  • Professional qualifications (ACA / ACCA or equivalent) is essential
  • Relevant experience, gained in a similar manager role – ideally from practice environment
  • Solid accountancy experience required
  • Have solid knowledge of FRS 102, FRS 101 and IFRS (EU).
  • Good understanding of financial reporting software packages (preferably Caseware) and other accounting solutions.
  • Competent using MS Office Word and Excel and other in-house packages as relevant
  • Have a good working knowledge of the main taxes affecting clients
  • Excellent people management and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with accuracy and focus
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical and research skills
  • Good understanding of billing system
